De smaak is fris, licht zuur en romig, met een zachte en volle textuur. Het vetgehalte maakt het romig, terwijl de fermentatie zorgt voor een frisse “tangy” smaak.
Zure room wordt gebruikt in sauzen, soepen, dips, taco’s en gebakken aardappelen. Het is populair omdat het gerechten een frisse, romige en licht zure smaakbalans geeft.
