De smaak is een mix van zoet (zoals suiker of fruitsiroop) en zuur (zoals azijn of citrussap), wat zorgt voor een frisse maar volle smaak. Deze sauzen worden veel gebruikt in de Aziatische keuken, vooral bij kip, varkensvlees, rijstgerechten en wokgerechten.
